Many discrete computational machines have a low-level difficulty with principles of scale. In a digital programmable computer, scale is simply a variable quotient: multplying a shape by 1, 0.1, 10, or 10^1000 is more or less the same computational operation. This creates both a profound sense of disorientation, as well as difficulty in establishing any baseline point of reference.

This infinitely variable scaling function is one of the reasons why gravity and navigation are so hard in three dimensional computer space. Spatial relationships can be of any orientation, of any scale. A discrete form of infinite rabbit hole; a spatial wonderland where up is down, or up, or updown; and where bodies can be infinitely large, infinitely small, or of infinitely varying size. It is all but a matter of the arbitrary value of scale.

In the field of visual æsthetics,
