The temporality of asynchronicity arises from the need internally and externally to offload some computation to more specific calculation machines. Inside any contemporary computer, gaming device or mobile platform is a city of dedicated co-processors that treat specific loads: storage, sound, graphics, networking, and so on. Each of these processors lives in its’ own world, running at its own speed, and requires orchestrating their interaction through asynchronous communications. And beyond the specific computational device we now know a larger orchestration of asynchronicity — we call it the Internet, but which is only one of the many forms that have emerged from this temporal logic of asynchronicity. And so within the computer, and emerging from computation in general, a new world of multiple temporalities opens onto us, and enters into our consciousness, affecting our world.
