I filled in for an afternoon to present the Media Design Master programme where I have been teaching for the past 15 years. I don't present the programme as well as the boss, but I think it went okay.
The MA Media Design programme is for students who want to specialize in interaction design and explore its potential.
Over two years, you will create interfaces, digital narratives, games, immersive experiences, and interactive installations. You will engage with creative coding and tools such as AI, VR, AR, and game engines.
Beyond purely technical training, you will conduct field research in order to create scenarios, understand user needs and design concepts that balance innovation with a human-centered, social, and environmentally responsible approach.
You will also have the opportunity to work with companies and public institutions, gain professional experience and present your work at festivals.
Pedagogical structure
The MA Media Design programme is structured around three main themes:
1. Evolution of human-machine interaction: You will investigate the evolving landscape of human-machine interactions by using machine learning processes to learn how to “talk to robots.”
2. Designing interactions with limited resources: You will prototype interactive experiences aimed at minimising the environmental footprint.
3. Games and stories: You will design new narrative and interactive experiences.
First year learning objectives
The first year of the Media Design Masters offers you practical and theoretical courses taught by internationally renowned professors and designers.
It will enable you to:
- Master research methodologies, technological tools and prototyping techniques to design your interactive projects.
- Conduct research with users to place people and social and ecological responsibility at the heart of your design process.
- Develop a critical personal reflection on emerging technologies and their social and ecological impacts.
- Work with professional partners to develop your projects in real-life contexts.
- Collaboration with a professional partner: Explore projects created during the first year of the Master's program in collaboration with a professional partner.
Second year learning objectives
The second year of the Media Design Masters is entirely devoted to your diploma project and dissertation. It will enable you to :
- Design an interactive project, from concept to production, integrating the skills you acquired in the first year, while considering its exhibition and communication.
- Write a master thesis linked to your diploma project, focusing on theoretical, technological and social issues in the field of interaction design.
- Learn how to present and communicate your project effectively in a professional context (festivals, conferences, events) in order to develop your professional network and visibility.
- Manage the entire creative process, from concept to public presentation, demonstrating autonomy, project management and strategic thinking.
